The #1 license plate

Driving around the state of Washington, Cougar license plates are impossible to miss. In fact, they are the number one specialty license plate on the road, dwarfing all others. What many do not know is that these crimson plates mean a lot more than just Cougar Pride; with $28 of each plate supporting WSU student scholarships, this program raised over $600,000 last year.

10,000 More Members!

That’s right, there are now 10,000 more members in the WSUAA since 2004, when we started the push to build membership, alumni engagement, and fiscal stability. That’s enough to pack the stands in Beasley Coliseum.

We’re celebrating an astonishing increase of over 70 percent to a total of 23,500 dues-paying members. It might be worth noting that the number of Life Members in the Alumni Association has doubled during this same time frame.

A sinking economy sparks scholarships

Two years ago, Lou Pepper watched the bank he once managed become the largest bank failure in U.S. history.

Pepper, a former Washington State University regent, had retired from Washington Mutual in the early 1990s when the bank was sound. But then a pattern of rapid growth and risky lending led to the collapse.

$3 million WSU scholarship program targets Washington high school seniors

HIGH-ACHIEVING Washington high school seniors who choose to enroll at Washington State University could share more than $3 million in scholarship awards under the University’s new Regents Scholars Program.

“The program aims to recognize outstanding seniors by acknowledging their accomplishments and offering them opportunities for significant support toward their education at WSU,” President V. Lane Rawlins said.

High school principals in the state received nomination forms for the Class of 2002 that had to be returned to WSU by September 15. Beginning in February, the principals will be asked to nominate members of the junior class—the Class of 2003—for the scholarship. Each principal can … » More …
