“Project Portrait,” launched in 2021 during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, was a project to photograph caregivers at the Providence hospitals in the Inland Northwest. Dean Davis of Spokane was contracted to capture portraits displaying the range of emotions of the health care workers dealing with the pandemic. The participants were also asked the question: “In 20 years from now, when someone asks you about the pandemic, what will you say?”
These portraits of the caregivers were then turned into a large mobile display which was unveiled initially at Sacred Heart Medical Center. It went on to tour the other Providence facilities at Holy Family Hospital, Mount Carmel Hospital, and Medical Park before having a condensed version installed as a permanent display at Sacred Heart.
Here are the six portrait collage panels (with some of the responses) and an informational panel which include the photographer’s comments.
