Philip K. Piele (’57 English) is the new president of the leadership council at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art at the University of Oregon.

Anne Taylor (’75 Int. Des.) was appointed to the Oregon Arts Commission in June. 

Rosemary Baker-Monaghan (’78 Forest Management, ’86 MCE) was elected chair of the Clatsop Community College Board in Oregon.

Norm Keitges (’78 Mech. Eng.) won a patent for his cable-injection process to repair electrical cables. 

1980s

Elece Hempel (’83 Hum.) was awarded with “Woman of the Year” of the 10th Assembly District in Marin County and southern Sonoma County, California. She is executive director of the Petaluma People Services Center.

Lori Stinson (’83 Nursing) was appointed provost and vice president for academic affairs at Lewis-Clark State College.

Navin Dimond (’85 Busi. Admin, Const. Mgmt.) received the Colorado “I Have A Dream” Foundation Dream Maker Award for his work in promoting education in his community. He is president and CEO of Stonebridge Companies, a hotel management and development firm.

Elizabeth Teske (’89 Comm.) at Trios Health Marketing in the Tri-Cities, and P.S. Media co-owner Mark Showalter (’85 Fine Arts) won five international awards for educational videos. 

1990s

Bobbi Cypher (’93 App. Des., Merch., Textiles) is store manager for WSU Connections’ newest store in downtown Spokane.

Aaron Miller (’94 Public Relations) has been promoted to senior vice president at Banner Bank.

Roger Casey (’98 Nursing), RN, MSN, CEN, was inducted into the Academy of Emergency Nursing. The honor recognizes emergency nurses for their significant contributions to quality patient care both in and out of the emergency department. He works for Northwest MedStar of Tri-Cities and has 22 years of experience in health care, including 17 in emergency medicine.

Amanda Cassens Affleck (’98 Psych.) produced an iPhone app to provide information on congenital heart defects for patients and health care providers. She is a nurse anesthetist living in Spokane with her husband Jay Affleck, and serves on the board of directors for the Washington Association of Nurse Anesthetists.

John Robert Clark (’98 PhD Botany) was appointed executive director of the Center for Plant Conservation at the Missouri Botanical Garden in St. Louis, Missouri.

Matthew A. Marner (’98 Crim. Jus.) opened his law office in Chandler, Arizona, in July. He practices DUI and criminal defense. He earned his master’s of science at Michigan State University in 2001 and his juris doctorate at the University of Arizona in 2008.

Derek Woodson (’98 Master of Engineering Management, ’05 MBA) has been hired as a senior account manager at SIGMADESIGN in Vancouver, Washington.

2000s

Joel S. Allen (’01 MFA) will have his sculptures featured at the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art in Bentonville, Arkansas, in their exhibition State of the Art: Discovering American Art Now. Joel works with twine, yarn, wine corks, pill bottles, wood, copper, irrigation tubing, acrylic sheeting, paper pulp, and rubber to create large-scale hanging fiber sculptures.

Jason Gesser (’02 Comm.) is an assistant director of development at the Cougar Athletic Fund. 

Jennifer Van Eps (’02 Fine Arts) was given the Legacy of Conservation award by the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service for her contributions to the agency’s “Unlock the Secrets in the Soil” educational campaign.

Kathryn House (’03 Spanish Language and Literature, Zoo., ’06 MS Horticulture) opened Sequence Winery in Caldwell, Idaho.

Heather Kimmel (’03 MA English) became Idaho state director of the American Lung Association.

Niki Koubourlis (’03 Real Estate and Fin.) launched a website where women can rent outdoor apparel and gear. Her e-commerce site, www.boldbettiesoutfitters.com, opened in August.

Rebecca Shepard (’03 Comm.) was hired as a marketing manager for Perrigo Animal Health in Omaha, Nebraska.

Dustin King (’04 Socio.) joined CORE Accounting & Consulting of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. He is studying for his CPA exam.

Ricky Russert (’05 Theatre Arts) joined the Cinemax television series Banshee, playing a teenage gang member.

Jacob Jones (’07 Comm.) won the 2014 Washington Mental Health Reporting Award. A staff writer for The Inlander in Spokane, he won for his series on how the criminal justice system handles people living with mental illness.

Craig Jordan (’07, ’11 MS Civil Eng.) was hired as a project geotechnical engineer by Landau Associates.

Steele Fitzloff (’08 Land. Arch.) became a licensed landscape architect. He works for Bernardo|Wills Architects in Spokane.

Joe Simons (’08 English) joined KXL Portland as radio news co-anchor.

Aron Baynes (’09 Kinesiology) and Brock Motum (x’13 Psych.) joined the Airbnb Australian Boomers, the Australian national team, and competed in the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup. 

Trista Harvey (’09 Nat. Res.) received the John and Jenny Barnett Memorial Prize for her work at the University of Melbourne.

Nik Koprivica (‘10 Business) was hired as an assistant basketball coach for Truman State University.

2010s

Joseph Grissom (’14 MS Botany) was selected as a Woodrow Wilson Teaching Fellow by the Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation. He will receive $30,000 for a master’s program at Ball State University to teach math or science in Indiana public schools.
